Rwanda, Water, and Me

A home in the Rwanda countryside

A few years ago I visited Rwanda and became aware of the plight of women who have to walk miles each day to fetch water. It’s not that I didn’t know, on an intellectual level, about water and sanitation issues in developing countries. It’s just that I wasn’t emotionally touched by these issues until I saw first hand what that meant. After that trip, I vowed to do something. I am finally getting around to it.

As you know, awareness simply won’t fix the problem. It takes money. There are many fine organizations to raise money for. I’ve researched many and have decided to funnel donations to the Blue Planet Run Foundation and Water for People.

If you don’t know much about water and sanitation issues in developing countries, then I encourage you to check this blog periodically to learn more and to comment on what I post. If you already know a lot, contribute to the discussion by posting comments or contact me about being a guest blogger. Regardless, please consider making a donation either to the Blue Planet Run Foundation or Water For People.

  1. Glen Gould Says:

Thank you for raising this important issue. I have also been to Rwanda and seen the unnecessary suffering and hardships caused by the difficulty or inability to get something as basic as fresh, safe water. These people could live much more comfortable and prosperous lives if so much of their time wasn’t spent trying to fulfill this basic need, or having to suffer the illnesses that come from contaminated water.

I have contributed $50 to Water for People
