The weather at the start of my recent trip to the San Juan Islands was such that the Captain decided to stay anchored near Hope Island rather than to venture into the more open, windy, and wavy sea. A small state park in Skagit County, three of us signed on to explore Hope Island with our guide, Jeremy. The walk through the meadows and hills around the island was a treat not only for the views, but for the abundance of wildflowers. By the next morning, the open seas calmed and we were able to leave our Hope Island anchorage for other stops in the San Juans.
