Enjoying the Colors of Artist’s Palette

Artist’s Palette is one of the must-see drives in Death Valley. It winds and dips its way through hills of many-hued volcanic deposits. The road itself is fun because of the extreme dips—so extreme that vehicles 25 feet or more are prohibited. Each time I drive through, I wonder if anyone has attempted to drive a long trailer or RV here. It would no doubt either get caught in a dip or hand on the peak of one of the very steep sections.

Both sunrise and sunset are great times to visit. This trip, I chose sunset. I enjoy the golden hues of the hills and how they accentuate the pink and green inner deposits. The Artist’s Palette stop provides another chance to see one of the most prolific mammals in Death Valley—the photographer!
