Introductions, Briefings, and Biosecurity
The morning was packed with introductions. First, we met the department heads, followed by an introduction to the expedition team and an overview of the voyage ahead. In the afternoon, we attended a Zodiac and biosecurity briefing, which included a thorough inspection and cleaning of our outerwear to ensure we weren’t bringing any contaminants ashore on tomorrow’s landings.
Birds, Birds, Birds
I spotted my first birds of the trip early in the morning. As the day progressed, their numbers seemed to increase, drawing more and more of my attention.

Deck 8, where the naturalists were stationed, offered a good vantage point for birdwatching, but due to the strong winds and cold, I watched the sea from the warmth of our suite. I stepped out onto the balcony whenever I spotted a significant number of birds. I managed to capture a few images before the ocean grew more restless.

By late afternoon, the waves were splashing against our Deck 5 balcony, sending spray over the railing—too wet for my liking. I decided to save my energy for tomorrow’s excursions to the West Falklands. Both have excellent opportunities to see birds up close. If we’re lucky, we might even spot a Rockhopper Penguin or two. Nesting season is over, but there’s always a chance of encountering a few stragglers. Fingers crossed!
