The CZU fire complex continues, and so does the evacuation order. Given that the flames are not near our property, I went there for a few hours to tend to my garden. I picked everything that was ripe or marginally ripe—Brad's Atomic grape tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, Fresno peppers, Padron peppers, bronze fennel, Thai basil, lemon basil, Macklemore cucumbers, Persian cucumbers, and Minnesota miniature melons. I tossed everything, except for the melons, into a blender with a few other ingredients and made a double batch of Gazpacho. I brought the Gazpacho and the melons back to the hotel to enjoy over the next few days.
Depending on the fire conditions, this could be the last of the produce. If the fire starts traveling fast towards the property, I will not be allowed to visit. Let's hope the wind doesn't pick up, as there are many more tomatoes and peppers to ripen.
